APSU Governors Football picked ninth in preseason poll at OVC Media Day

APSU Football - Austin Peay State UniversityNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University football was picked ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference by a vote of the conference coaches and sports information directors announced Monday at the annual OVC Media Day.

Defending champion Jacksonville State was the top preseason choice for a third straight year, picking up 16 of 18 first-place votes and 128 points total.

Long time Tennessee Basketball Coach Pat Summitt passes away

 

Tennessee Mourns Loss Of Iconic Coach

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN –  Legendary Tennessee Lady Vol basketball coach Pat Summitt, mentor and mother-figure to her players; a revered ambassador for her university and state; a trailblazer for women; and a role model for people all over the world passed away Tuesday, June 28th, in Knoxville at the age of 64.

Born Patricia Sue Head on June 14th, 1952 in Clarksville, Tennessee, Summitt arrived at the University of Tennessee for her first job as a 22-year-old physical education teacher and coach in 1974. As it turned out, the move to Knoxville would be the only one she’d make in her career. She leaves a legacy of greatness and grace that will never be forgotten.

Instant Peay Play: Breaking down APSU Baseball’s return to the post season

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team returns to the post season for the first time in three years this week, as it enters the Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament at Pringle Park in Jackson, TN, as the number-three seed.

The Govs (28-21, 17-9 OVC) were the number-two overall seed after completing their OVC schedule a week-and-a-half ago, but had to vacate four conference wins this past week due to playing an ineligible player which allowed Jacksonville State to past them in the conference standing this past weekend, sweeping Tennessee Martin in their three-game OVC series.

APSU Governors Baseball to vacate four wins from 2016 season

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityBrentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will vacate four wins from the current 2016 season due to the use of an ineligible student-athlete, following a ruling from the Ohio Valley Conference, Monday.

Austin Peay self-reported the violation after it was uncovered during normal auditing of student-athletes’ academic records following the Spring 2016 semester.

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team enters its final weekend of Ohio Valley Conference play when it travels to SIU Edwardsville for a three-game set, beginning with a 6:00pm, Friday contest at the Simmons Baseball Complex.

The Govs and Cougars will follow the opener with a 2:00pm, Saturday contest followed by a 1:00pm, Sunday matchup.

Chase Hamilton named APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Junior outfielder Chase Hamilton, of the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Hamilton homered twice in the opening game of Austin Peay’s series against UT Martin, part of a 3-for-4, three-RBI outing that allowed the Govs to take Game 1, 8-3.

He followed that up with a 3-for-5 performance the following day after moving into the clean-up spot in the lineup.

Middle Tennessee, Evansville next for APSU Baseball

APSU Baseball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For the first time in 14 days, Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will take the field for a midweek outing. First, the Governors will host Middle Tennessee in a 3:00pm, Tuesday contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay then heads north for a 6:00pm, Wednesday contest against Evansville at Braun Stadium.
