Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team kicks off the spring portion of its schedule 2:00pm, Saturday, against Samford in Birmingham, AL.
The season’s first dual matches take place at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion.

APSU Tennis Coach Malik Tabet steps down

Clarksville, TN – Malik Tabet, Austin Peay State University men and women’s tennis coach for the past three years, has announced his resignation because of “personal reasons.”
Tabet came to Austin Peay after spending five seasons at Indiana State, coaching the women (five seasons) and the men (one). He led the Lady Govs to 2010 Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship and their first NCAA tournament championship. The Lady Govs qualified for the OVC tournament in each of his three seasons as head coach.

37 APSU student-athletes conferred degrees Friday

Clarksville, TN – A record 1,075 graduate were awarded degree at Austin Peay State University‘s 83rd Spring Commencement and 37 were student-athletes.
They were part of graduation ceremonies in the Dunn Center as both a morning and afternoon commencements were held Friday.
The seniors athletes were part of a graduating class that saw record numbers earn Athletics Directors Honor Roll recognition and a department grade-point average that approach 3.0 annually.

Sean Bailey, Vanja Tomic, Greg Bachman earn Austin Peay highest Athletics Honors

Clarksville, TN – For the first time since Austin Peay State University established the awards nearly two decades ago, the Most Outstanding Male and Female Athletes have come from the sport of tennis.
Junior Sean Bailey, who recently was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in leading the Govs to the No. 2 seed in the OVC tournament, and Vanja Tomic, a three-time first-team All-OVC selection who owned an 19-6 record at No. 1 singles this year, have been named the 2011-12 Most Outstanding APSU Athletes.

Eastern Kentucky Colonels eliminate Austin Peay Lady Govs Tennis at OVC Tournament

Nashville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team was eliminated from the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament with a 4-3 loss to Eastern Kentucky, Saturday, at Centennial Sportsplex.
In both singles and doubles, the match came down to the final point. The Lady Govs won two of three doubles matches, but the Colonels won four singles matches to advance.

Senior Vanja Tomic rebounded from Saturday’s loss with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles against Morehead State’s Alix Young.
