Tennessee State Troopers Will Strictly Enforce No Refusal Law

The Tennessee Highway PatrolNashville, TN – Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Colonel Tracy Trott are reminding citizens to expect a “No Refusal” and high-visibility, safe driving enforcement campaign during the 2012 Thanksgiving Holiday period. The “No Refusal” enforcement will begin at 6:00pm, Wednesday, November 21st and end at midnight, Sunday, November 25th.

The “No Refusal” law allows law enforcement officials to seek search warrants for blood samples in cases involving suspected impaired drivers. The goal is to deter impaired driving and reduce fatal crashes on Tennessee roadways.  The Thanksgiving Holiday marks the third “No Refusal” enforcement effort, following campaigns over the Fourth of July and Labor Day holiday periods.

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security speeds up Driver License Renewals with iPad Technology

 

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is using Apple iPad technology in its state driver service centers to help improve wait times for customers who need to renew or replace driver licenses.

The department has installed 72 iPad kiosks, called ASSETS (automatic self-service electronic terminals), inside 26 driver service centers across Tennessee, primarily located in the state’s urban areas. Customers who visit specified driver service centers to simply renew or replace a lost driver license may use a special application installed on the iPads to quickly complete and pay for the transaction using a credit or debit card.

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security encourages Voters to obtain Photo IDs before March 6th Presidential Primary

 

Special Saturday Service will cease after March 3rd, County Clerk Partners to stop issuing Voter Photo ID on March 12th

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is encouraging voters this week to obtain photo IDs for voting purposes at no cost before the Tennessee Presidential Primary elections on March 6th.

The department will open certain driver service centers across the state this Saturday for voter photo identification issuance only. March 3rd will be the last opportunity for registered voters to take advantage of this special Saturday service.

Driver Service Center Saturday Hours for Voter ID will cease in March

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced that 12,571 photo IDs had been issued for voting purposes from July 1st through January 30th, 2011. The vast majority (11,896) of those issued were non-photo driver licenses converted into photo driver licenses, while 675 were original photo identification cards.

Effective January 1st, 2012, a new state law requires citizens to present a federal or state-issued photo ID to vote at the polls. The law also requires the Department of Safety and Homeland Security to issue photo IDs for voting purposes at no charge. «Read the rest of this article»

2011 Black Bear Harvest establishes New Record

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – A record black bear harvest was established in the 2011 hunting seasons, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports. The new mark surpasses the previous mark of 573 that was set in 2009.

Hunters harvested a total of 581 bears, surpassing the previous record of 566 set in 2009. The third all-time high for a year was 446 in 2008.

This year’s record harvest is up from the 301 bears harvested in 2010. Hunters have harvested at least 300 bears in the state for the past seven years. «Read the rest of this article»

Department encourages Citizens to visit one of the 19 Driver Service Centers opened On First Saturday of January for Voter ID Issuance Only

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security today announced that 9,492 photo IDs had been issued for voting purposes from July 1st through December 31st, 2011. The vast majority (8,989) of those issued were non-photo driver licenses converted into photo driver licenses, while 503 were original photo identification cards.

Tennessee Military DepartmentNashville, TN – On December 13th, the Tennessee Military Department will celebrate the 375th Birthday of the National Guard, the country’s oldest military organization.

The National Guard’s Citizen-Soldiers have a long and proud history that took root in the nation’s colonial beginnings.

During the 1630s, British settlements in North America were primarily limited to areas along the Atlantic coast. As colonists expanded west into the interior of the country, they often faced armed conflict with Native Americans. Colonists were often responsible for their own defense and organized into separate militia companies to defend against Indian attacks. More than 7,800 Voter Photo IDs Issued Since July 1st

The figure includes both the number of original photo IDs issued to voters and the number of non-photo driver licenses converted into photo driver licenses.

Department Reminds Citizens That Certain Driver Service Centers Will Be Open On First Saturday Of December For Voter ID Issuance Only

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced Monday that during the month of November it had more than doubled the number of photo identifications issued for voting purposes since the end of October.

As of November 28th, the department had issued 6,566 photo IDs for voting purposes, compared to the 2,385 issued as of October 31st. A new state law will require a federal or state-issued photo ID to vote starting in 2012. Department of Safety and Homeland Security Issues More than 600 Voter Photo IDs During Special Saturday Hours

 

Tennessee Department of SafetyNashville, TN – The Department of Safety and Homeland Security issued 663 photo IDs during special Saturday hours of operation at 19 state driver service centers on November 5th. The department issued photo IDs to voters at no charge and converted non-photo driver licenses into photo driver licenses for voters at no charge.

Driver service centers in 15 counties were open on the first Saturday of November and will be open on the first Saturday of each month through March 2012 for voter photo ID issuance. The centers will operate during normal business hours, from 8:30am – 5:00pm for voter photo IDs only. No other business will be conducted in the centers on Saturdays.
