Instant Peay Play: Opening weekend gives APSU Governors Football coaching staff much to evaluate

 

Instant Peay PlayClarksville, TN – With college football teams not facing another school in a scrimmage before the opening of the regular season, the September 5th contest versus Mercer University has given the Austin Peay coaching staff its first chance to evaluate its talent against someone other than itself, as its moves forward in the 2015 season.

The first thing that jumps out is the improved defensive effort by the Govs, even in the 28-7 loss, after APSU gave up 28 points in the first quarter alone last season versus Mercer on its way to a 49-21 loss in Macon, GA.

APSU Governors Football loses final nonconference game at Ohio Bobcats

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUAthens, OH – Senior Tyler Tettleton threw for three first-half scores to lead Ohio to a 35-0 victory against Austin Peay State University, Saturday afternoon, at Peden Stadium in nonconference football action.

It was Ohio’s third straight victory after a pummeling by Louisville in the opener. Austin Peay will take a 0-4 record into its bye week.

APSU Football’s Earlzo Singleton withdraws from school; Reco Williams declared academically ineligible

 

APSU - Austin Peay State University SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University wide receiver Earlzo Singleton, who was signed during late spring, has withdrawn for school and left the Governors football program.

In addition, running back Reco Williams has been declared academically ineligible and also will not competing for the Governors this fall.

APSU Governors Football add Two Central Michigan transfers among six late additions

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head coach Kirby Cannon has gone north to add a couple of familiar faces to the Governors’ 2013 roster.

Running back Tim Phillips, who enjoyed an incredible prep career in Louisville before spending the last four seasons at Central Michigan, and safety Leron Eaddy (pronounced ee-dee), who played for Cannon the past three seasons in the Chippewas secondary, will play their final respective college seasons as Governors.

APSU Football’s Ben Stansfield earns preseason All-OVC Honors

 

Austin Peay State University Governors Sports - APSUNashville, TN – Senior offensive tackle Ben Stansfield was a preseason all-conference selection and Austin Peay State University was picked ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference at by a vote of the conference coaches and sports information directors announced July 22nd at the annual OVC Media Day.

Football Govs add three wide receivers

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s football team has added depth to its wide receiver corps with the most recent announced signings.

In fact, all three signees also will add size and speed to an area that lost a trio (Adrian Mines, T.C. Jennings and Darryl Miller) of experienced senior receivers. They are 6-3, 190-pound Hunter Branch, of Fairview; Anthony Woodard, a  6-5, 190-pound receiver from Gallatin, and Darryl Clack, a 6-6, 210-pound wideout from Maplewood.
