Nashville SoundsNashville, TNNashville Sounds starting pitcher Hiram Burgos has been named the Pacific Coast League’s Pitcher of the Week for the August 27th – September 3rd period.

The 25-year-old hurler tossed 12.0 scoreless innings in a pair of quality starts during the week, scattering nine hits while striking out 10 batters. He held league batters to a .196 average (9-for-46) over the two outings.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Shelby Miller struck out nine over six strong innings as the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds handed the Nashville Sounds a 5-1 defeat in the opener of a season-ending four-game series.

The 21–year-old Miller (11-10) scattered five hits and walked none for his eighth quality start and eleventh victory.

The loss to the Redbirds snapped a season-best five-game winning streak and six-game win streak at home. The top three hitters in the Memphis lineup went a combined 9-for-13 with four runs scored.

Nashville (67-73) extended its longest winning streak of the year to five games. The Sounds — who never trailed during the entire four-game set — won 10 of their 16 games against Iowa this season, the club’s third straight double-digit win total against the I-Cubs.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TNNashville Sounds outfielder Caleb Gindl has been named the Pacific Coast League’s Batter of the Week for the August 20-26 period.

The 23-year-old posted a .533 average (16-for-30) with a league-leading 10 RBIs in seven games over the seven-day span. Gindl rapped eight of his league-high 16 hits for extra bases during the week (five doubles, one triple, two home runs).

Nashville SoundsRound Rock, TX – The Nashville Sounds plated six runs in the top of the ninth inning, capped by a two-run Eric Farris homer, to record an 11-5 victory on Sunday evening at The Dell Diamond in the club’s final road game of the season.

The Sounds (63-73), who rapped out 15 hits and were not retired in order in any of the nine innings in the contest, recorded their 23rd last at-bat win of the season to finish their final road trip with a 4-5 record. The 11 runs marked just the fourth double-digit scoring total for Nashville this year.

Spilborghs led off the eighth with single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on a Koyie Hill single, and came home on Julio Borbon’s infield ground out.

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NE – Outfielder Caleb Gindl belted a pair of two-run homers to power the Nashville Sounds to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Tuesday night at Werner Park in the finale of a four-game series.

Nashville matched a season-high with 16 hits on the evening, while the bottom three hitters in the Sounds lineup combined for nine knocks, five RBIs, and six runs scored. Shortstop Jeff Bianchi (4-for-4) was a triple short of the cycle, reaching base safely in all five of his plate appearances and scoring three runs. Catcher Humberto Quintero also added two hits from the nine hole.

Nashville SoundsPapillion, NE – Right-hander Claudio Vargas turned in an outstanding effort to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 9-1 victory over the division-rival Omaha Storm Chasers on Monday evening at Werner Park.

Vargas (6-1) faced just one over the minimum during his eight scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out seven batters and walking none. It marked his fifth quality start in his last six outings. Vargas, who became the first Sounds hurler to work more than seven innings in a start this season, has posted a 2.17 ERA (14er/58.0ip) over his last nine starts.

Schafer began the frame with an opposite-field single and moved to second on a pickoff attempt. Second baseman Eric Farris then hit a sacrifice bunt, which was then under thrown to first that allowed Schafer to score the winning-run.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Tacoma Rainiers homered three times en route to a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Nashville Sounds in the second game of a three-game series on Wednesday night at Greer Stadium.

The Sounds trailed by five runs early, but came back to take a one-run lead before relinquishing the lead in the eighth. Nashville’s last nine games have been decided by one or two runs.
