Make your New Year’s Resolution to stop in at one of our community centers to get back into shape for the spring. Our community centers are equipped with weight rooms, treadmills and stationary bikes for all of your fitness needs. And now that we have ushered the New Year in, it’s time to get back to our regular schedules at the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department.
The Community Centers will be back on their winter hour schedules starting Tuesday, January 6th. All classes and regular programming will also resume their regular time slots starting Tuesday. Can you believe Christmas is this week and 2009 will be here 12 days?
The Community Centers will be changing their hours and classes to accommodate the upcoming Christmas break.
All three community centers are now on extended hours from 12 noon until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday until January 5th. On Saturdays, the centers will keep their regularly scheduled hours for operation. This would be an excellent time to visit the weight rooms, racquetball courts, game rooms and computer labs which will also be open during the holiday schedule at all community centers. «Read the rest of this article»

If you are planning to visit the Christmas on the Cumberland lighting display this coming weekend, please be aware that Santa is not scheduled this weekend. Christmas on the Cumberland will be open nightly, Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday through January 1st. Santa is scheduled to return December 19th-21st.
There are lots of things happening in the Community Centers this season.
Open Volleyball is at the Kleeman Community Center at 166 Cunningham Lane, on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come out and join us. You only need to purchase an annual ID card for $5 to participate. «Read the rest of this article»

Now that Thanksgiving meals are behind us, you might want to consider visiting our community centers weight and fitness rooms before the Christmas parties begin. Each community center is filled with treadmills, a Universal Machine, which is various weight stations, and Racquetball Courts to help ward off those extra pounds during the holidays.

Burt Cobb Community Center at 1011 Franklin Street has three treadmills and the Aerodyne Bike. The Crow Community Center at 211 Richview Road has an Elliptical Running Machine and an Aerodyne Bike.
If weight training or exercise machines are not your cup of cheer, visit the Kleeman Community Center at 166 Cunningham Lane where they have Wallyball equipment that can be rented out for $4.00 an hour. This should give an entire family the workout and competitive fun they are looking for. This year’s Winter Gym program is at Byrns-Darden Elementary School from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s. This program is for folks who want to use the gym for open play basketball this season. Those interested in participating should use the entrance on Peacher’s Mill Road to access the gymnasium each night.
The Kids on Crafts program will be at Kleemen Community Center at 166 Cunningham Lane on Tuesday, November 18th from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. The class features the abstract works of Kandinsky, Picasso and Pollock. After instructions, the children are free to create their own abstract impressions on canvas. The program is free and open to children ages 7 to 15 with a $5.00 center ID Card.
Also on November 18th at the Kleeman Center is the Park Rangers Park Watch Meeting at 7 p.m. All those interested in knowing what is going on in our park system and how you can play a part in Park safety should mark your calendars to attend.
