Register now for Feb. 5 Presidential Primary

Tennessee will hold its presidential primary on February 8, with early voting from January 16-31, but the deadline to register is coming up soon: Monday, January 7.

Prospective voters must be Montgomery County residents who will be 18 years of age by Feb. 15, 2008. They must bring an ID with their signature in order to register. Voters who have not cast a vote in the several elections may have been placed on the inactive voter list but will still be eligible to vote in the primary. However, they can be purged from the voter list if they remain inactive through two federal polling cycles. «Read the rest of this article»

VITA: Income tax filing help available for low income families

 

co-tax-form-pic1.jpgJames E. Kendrick, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program Coordinator in Clarksville has announced the January 31 opening of that program. VITA is a volunteer based, free tax preparation service for lower income families.

In addition to the free tax preparation service, VITA emphasizes the importance of asset building and finance management to its clients. They are also launching an initiative to urge more families to file for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) with the hope that those families will use this money to build more assets. «Read the rest of this article»
