Decades re-lived on the way to Homecoming

If you’ve seen 1920s flappers, rock ‘n rollin’ kids in poodle skirts and guys with slicked back hair and leather jackets, hippies in bellbottom jeans and tie-dyed T-shirts dashing from class to class … you can believe your eyes: decade by decade, APSU students have been heading towards Homecoming with a celebration of decades past. Halloween has nothing on this Homecoming  celebration, which is themed “Let the Good Times Roll!

Homecoming continues through the weekend with the following events:

Friday, Oct. 24: Decade of the Day – Totally ’80s

30th Annual Homecoming Golf Tournament, 8 a.m., Swan Lake Golf Course. $60 per person. Open to the public. Fee includes ditty bag, refreshments on the golf course and light lunch. 42nd Annual Alumni-Varsity Golf Match, 1 p.m. shotgun start, Clarksville Country Club, Men’s varsity golf alumni compete against the current men’s golf team in this annual event. Pep Rally/Bonfire/Yard Party, 3-6 p.m., Intramural Field, Free. Students, alumni and friends are invited to attend. Activities include Costume and Wing Tasting contests, Dance Off, Yard Party (impromptu stepping is welcome), introduction of Homecoming Court, deejay, food and booths. Appearances by APSU head football coach Rick Christophel, the Governors Marching Band, cheerleaders and pom squad prior to the pep rally and bonfire at 5:30 p.m. Sponsored by IFC, PC, NPHC, Student Life and Leadership and African-American Alumni Chapter/APSU National Alumni Association. 17th Annual Dave Aaron Reception,6 p.m., Riverview Inn, Montgomery Room, 50 College St.. Free. Open to the public. RSVPs are recommended. Friends and former players of the late Dave Aaron are encouraged to reunite during this special event. Homecoming Street Dance, 8 p.m. – midnight, Strawberry Alley in downtown Clarksville. Free admission and open to the public. Reunite with friends and dance the night away to music by Mike Robinson.
