Winter programs come into play at Clarksville community centers

Director Eduardo Martorony, his staff, and volunteers at the Kleeman Community Center Director hosted the Kleeman Haunted Mansion on October 25th. An estimated 155 youths toured the facility that was filled with loads of creepy crawlers, scary characters and an elaborate cemetery. It was a huge success and visitors seemed to enjoy being scared to death enough to re-enter the house for a second or third tour.

In other news, the Eagles of War won the Sunday Night Men’s Softball Tournament at Heritage Park. Lisenbee Lawn Service took second. The Tuesday Night Co-Ed League first place winner went to the Long Shots while the Misfits took second for the season. The tournament championship game will be played by the Long Shots and the Misfits November 4, at Heritage Park. Tuesday night’s Co-Ed League tournament will wrap up the Adult Fall Softball Leagues for this season. Mark your calendars for February 8th, 2009, when the first meeting for the Spring Softball Leagues will be held.

The Winter Gym program started November 3 at Byrns-Darden Elementary School. The gym will be open from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Monday’s, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. All participants are asked to use the entrance on Peacher’s Mill Road to access the gymnasium each night.

Deadline for sign-ups in the Crow Community Center Holiday 3 on 3 Invitational Basketball Tournament is November 21st. The tournament is scheduled for December 12th and 13th. Cost for each 4 man team is $40.00. For more information on this tournament and how you can get your team in the tournament, contact center director Matt Nixon at 931-647-3071 or visit them at 211 Richview Road .

Last chance for joining the free Hula and Tahitian dance classes will be this week at the Crow Center. Beginning Hula will be on Mondays at 5 p.m. for ages 7 to 12 years and at 5:30 p.m. for ages 13 years and older. Tahitian dance class will be on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. for all ages 8 years and older. All participants must have a $5.00 center ID card to participate in these free classes.

Badminton Open play is also at the Crow Community Center on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. If you don’t have a racket to play, we have a few to share, so don’t let that stop you from joining. This is a great way to keep active and fit for seniors or retirees. Home schooled high school students, ages 14-18 are most welcomed to join the group and get a great workout, as well.

The Kids on Crafts after school program will be at the Burt-Cobb Community Center at 1011 Franklin Street today.The free class is from 3:30 p.m. and until 5 p.m. for ages 8 years and older. This week, participants will discover the art of Quilting and Collage. As with all programs, a $5.00 center ID card is all that is required for participation in this program.

Dodge Ball is featured on Wednesdays each week at the Burt-Cobb Center . The fun starts around 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. for youths ages 6 and up.
