Wildlife Society named “Chapter of the Year”

Austin Peay State University’s student chapter of the Wildlife Society has been named Best  for the southeastern section.

The student chapter of the Wildlife Society was selected during the Southeastern Wildlife Society Conference held Saturday, Oct. 11 at Corpus Christi, Texas. APSU was selected out of a large pool of universities from 13 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Rachel Peacher, a graduate student in the biology department, represented APSU at the conference and accepted the award. In addition to national recognition, the student chapter of the Wildlife Society will receive a plaque and $1,000.

“This was totally unexpected,” says Dr. Andrew Barrass, the faculty sponsor of the student chapter of the Wildlife Society.  “We have a great group of new students in the chapter, and they are working tirelessly on many projects.”

The APSU Chapter of the Wildlife Society was founded in September 2007. More than 50 students regularly attend the monthly meetings.
