Winter programs going strong at city’s Community Centers

If you are planning to visit the Christmas on the Cumberland lighting display this coming weekend, please be aware that Santa is not scheduled this weekend.  Christmas on the Cumberland will be open nightly, Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday through January 1st.  Santa is scheduled to return December 19th-21st.

There are lots of things happening in the Community Centers this season.

Open Volleyball is at the Kleeman Community Center at 166 Cunningham Lane, on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to come out and join us.  You only need to purchase an annual ID card for $5 to participate.

Senior Hour is also featured at the Kleeman Center on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.  Seniors ages 50 + can enjoy indoor walking, table tennis, racquetball, basketball and use of the weight room without interruption.

The Kids on Crafts after school program will be at the Crow Community Center this week.  On Tuesday, December 9th, we will be making special Mosaic gifts for Mom and Dad from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.  The craft class is free however limited to the first 12 students’ ages 7 to 17 that enter.  This project will be rather lengthy and will continue on Thursday, December 11th at the same time.  The Crow Center is located at 211 Richview Road and a center ID card is required to enter the class.

Enjoy working out without a big crowd around?   Well, the Burt-Cobb Community Center at 1011 Franklin Street is available for your workout convenience on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.  You can be sure that the weight room, racquetball and basketball courts are free from crowds at that time.  Also, walkers who need a great indoor facility are welcomed!

Christmas parties are scheduled at all of our community centers this year at no cost other than the $5.00 Center ID Card.  There will be lots of games, surprise visits from Santa and holiday treats served at each location.

The Burt-Cobb Community Center will kick off the holiday with their party on Tuesday, December 16th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  Santa is scheduled to arrive at 6:30 p.m. with Karaoke fun for all.

On Thursday, December 18th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., the Crow Community Center will host their family Christmas party for those who will join them.  Santa is also expected at this facility for parents to take pictures of their little tots on his lap.

And the Kleeman Community Center will host their Christmas party on Friday, December 19th from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.  Santa should make his appearance sometime during the party.

Winter Gym is still on going this week at Byrns-Darden Elementary School from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s. You must be 13 years or older to use the facility but children under 13 years are welcome with adult supervision. Those interested in taking advantage of the extra opportunity to workout on the basketball court should use the entrance on Peacher’s Mill Road to access the gym each night.
