Parks after Dark kicks off with Concerts in the Park

clarksvilletnBe sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, May 16 for the first Concerts in the Park of the season.  Concerts in the Park is part of City of Clarksville’s Parks after Dark series which features free concerts, movies and theatre the months of May through August.  The concert begins at 6p.m. at McGregor Park River Walk.  This month’s concert features the Hype of Jazz Concert Band.  Bring your family, picnic baskets and lawn chairs for a night of mellow jazz music under the stars. Tennessee 4th grader wins international aviation art contest

NASHVILLE — Governor Phil Bredesen congratulated two Knoxville, Tennessee elementary students at the state Capitol Thursday for placing first and second in their age group in a national aviation arts contest. The Governor recognized 4th grader Zeth Akins for placing second in the International Aviation Arts Contest. Student Chihye Kim was recognized for winning her age bracket in the National competition. Both children are students in Ms. Jeanne Hardin’s class at Cedar Bluff Elementary School.

“Being an artist and a pilot myself, I’m especially appreciative and proud of the work of these young people and the recognition their work has brought to Tennessee,” said Bredesen. “Congratulations to each of these students for their work, talent and achievement.”

The annual International Aviation Art Contest, an event of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) is cosponsored by the National Association of State Aviation Officials Center for Aviation Research and Education (NASAO Center) and the National Aeronautics Association (NAA). «Read the rest of this article»

HUD makes nearly $1 billion available in Recovery Act funds to improve public housing

 

Grants will help the elderly and disabled, boost energy efficiency and create jobs

hudlogoWASHINGTON – U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Donovan today announced that HUD is offering nearly $1 billion to make substantial improvements to thousands of public housing units nationwide. The Public Housing Capital Funds being offered today are provided through The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) and are designed to help selected public housing authorities improve the quality of their housing stock, promote energy efficiency and create jobs.

In March, HUD allocated nearly $3 billion in Recovery Act funding to more than 3,100 public housing authorities across the U.S. Distributed by formula, that funding is already being put to work to improve public housing and create safer, more livable environments for lower income residents. 200 soldiers to return to Fort Campbell from Afghanistan

 

Fort Campbell, KY.  The Home of the Screaming EaglesFORT CAMPBELL, Ky., May 11, 2009 – More than 200 Fort Campbell Soldiers are scheduled to return from Afghanistan this week.  The 101st DSTB has been on a 15-month deployment in Afghanistan. The welcome home ceremony is currently scheduled for May 14, at 9:05 p.m., however that is subject to change.
