Representatives Curtis Johnson, Joe Pitts and Phillip Johnson and Senator Tim Barnes announced that the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has been awarded $97,900 in grants for energy efficient lighting projects.
“I am pleased that Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has received this grant that will improve energy efficiency in our schools,” said Rep. Curtis Johnson. “This will assist in fostering a healthier and safe learning environment for our students, and I am glad to see that we are taking advantage of technology to do so.”
“Families, businesses, and governments are struggling right now as the economy has been dismal. This grant money will assist in improving energy efficiency, which in turn will save money in the future,” continued Rep. Pitts.
“A wealth of technical information and assistance is available to help schools through the complexities of saving energy. In addition to technical information, more hands on technical assistance such as energy audits and energy benchmarking are available at no cost to the schools,” added Senator Barnes.
The General Assembly passed legislation in 2008 that implemented Tennessee’s Energy Efficient Schools Initiative. The grants were to be awarded to school districts to assist the schools in becoming more energy efficient, resulting lower operating costs and creating a better learning environment for Tennessee students.
