As a part of V-day, APSU Joins Global Effort to Stop Violence Against Women and Girls

At 7 p.m. on March 30 and 31, V-Day APSU will present a two-night only benefit reading of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues,” at Austin Peay State University’s Clement Auditorium.

Last year, more than 4,200 communities hosted V-Day benefits around the world, raising funds and awareness toward ending violence against women. These highly successful events raised more than $4 million through performance of “The Vagina Monologues,” readings from V-Day’s “A Memory, A Monologue, a Rant and a Prayer” and “Any One of Us: Words From Prison” and screenings of V-Day’s documentary “Until the Violence Stops.” APSU has joined this global movement as part of the V-Day 2010 College Campaign.

This marks the ninth year in a row APSU has presented a benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues.” This benefit production is sponsored by the APSU Women’s Studies Program and Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance.

Bringing this show to APSU this year is an attempt to create a “V-Season,” a series of events between Feb. 1 and April 30 that promote the V-Day movement and the eradication of violence against women. Other events during the “V-Season” include a presentation by Dr. Jill Eichhorn on “V-Day: A Season of Courage and Joy” at 2 p.m., March 24 in the Felix G. Woodward Library and a presentation by Dr. Jill Franks on “Finding Their Voice: Twentieth Century Irish Women Writers” at 2 p.m., March 30 in the Woodward Library.

For more information on these events, contact Dr. Jill Eichhorn at 931-221-6314 or eichhornje@apsu.edu.
