Burggraf, Bartkiewicz set for NCAA East Region pole vault

APSU Governors LogoGREENSBORO, N.C. – Austin Peay State University senior pole vaulters Carrie Burggraf and Molly Bartkiewicz are set to compete in the preliminary round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Friday, in Greensboro, NC, the NCAA announced Friday.

The Lady Govs duo will compete in the East Region Preliminary Rounds held at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. The pole vault competition will be held 4:00 pm, Friday.

Burgraff, courtesy of her 4.09m (13-05) vault at the OVC Championships, enters the meet ranked 12th in the East Region according to the latest performance list released by the NCAA. Bartkiewicz will enter the meet ranked 27th after her vault of 3.84m (12-11) at the OVC Championships.

It is the third consecutive year Burggraf has been selected to the NCAA Regionals, she finished 23rd as a sophomore and 18th last season as a junior. Bartkiewicz reaches the regional preliminaries for the second time, finishing 22nd last season.

“Both Carrie and Molly have competed before in the regional and that certainly will help Friday,” APSU coach Doug Molnar said. “They won’t have first-time jitters. Both have performed well this year and have practiced well leading up to this.”

The NCAA selected the top 48 individuals and top 24 relay teams from each of the two designated regions to compete in the preliminary rounds. The top 12 finishers from each region will advance to the NCAA Championship Meet which will be held June 9th – 12th in Eugene, OR, with the University of Oregon serving as host. The new format replaces the three region format used for qualifying since the 2003 season.
