The Clarksville Parks and Rec Report

The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family. This weeks highlights include:

Summer Youth Program Began Monday

Every summer beginning June 7th, from 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday- Friday, school gymnasiums are modified to a “Community Center” atmosphere with table games, tournaments, arts and crafts, and special activities.

All children ages 6-16 are welcome to attend for FREE.  Parent’s permission is required for participation.

Summer Playhouse Sign Ups

Children ages 10-16 can register now for the six-week Roxy Regional Theatre workshop.  Register at the Parks & Recreation Main office located at 102 Public Square.  The cost is $30.00.

Classes begin June 7th and meet from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the Roxy Theatre Monday thru Thursday.

Archery Class

Register your child today at the Parks and Recreation main office for a week long archery class.Open to children ages 10-16.  The class will be held from 9:00am-11:00am at Billy Dunlop Park from June 21st to June 25th. The cost is $10.00 per person for the entire week.

Pools Now Open- NEW Swim Classes Available

Pools opened Saturday, May 29th with the first session of swim classes to begin June 14th.

This year we are offering Senior Splash which consists of a 45 minute workout for those ages 50 and up.  This class combines gentle, yet effective aerobic exercises to help tone and strengthen muscles.  Basic Water Aerobics is also available for anyone ages 18 and up.  This 45 minute class is aimed at improving tone, strength and mobility.

Get your child accustomed to the water at an early age with our Mommy/Daddy and Me class.  Recommended for children 6-36 months.

Downtown Market

Come down to Public Square this Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm for the Clarksville Downtown Market.  The market will feature fresh, locally grown produce, nursery stock, handmade craft items, and other seasonal commodities.

You can also find baked goods, home décor, seasonal flowers and more!

Movies in the Park

Movies in the Park

Join us for the our next viewing of Movies in the Park, Saturday June 12th at Heritage Park Soccer fields for the viewing of The Notebook.  Come early to save your spot and enjoy pre-show activities beginning an hour before the movie which begins at dark.

Admission to the movie is free.

Sunrise Fitness at McGregor Park

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with the Clarksville Athletic Club to provide free fitness classes right beside the Cumberland River at McGregor Park.

Sunrise Fitness is a six-week series that features Sunrise Yoga on Saturday mornings coupled with a unique fitness activity such as pilates, zumba, or bootcamp on Wednesday mornings.  Each class meets from 6:00am-7:00am. Each participant needs to bring their own mat.

Billy Dunlop Park Closed June 5th-11th

Boy Scout Troop 509 camping at Billy Dunlop Park

Due to the Boy Scouts Camp, Billy Dunlop Park will be closed to the public from June 5th through June 11th.  The park will re-open to the public Saturday morning, June 12th.

Jammin’ in the Alley June 18th

Jammin' In the AlleyThe City of Clarksville together with U.S. Bank will soon be Jammin’ in Strawberry Alley once more.  Join us on Friday, June 18th for Jammin’ in the Alley’s third year in downtown Clarksville.

This month’s free concert features Syd Hedrick- a local favorite in Clarksville. The concert begins at 7:00pm, come ready to eat, dance and have fun!
