Update on Volunteer efforts during the Flood Recovery Process

The outpour of community involvement has been extraordinary throughout the flood recovery process.  On May 3rd, 2010, Mayor Johnny Piper called upon the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Action Agency as the lead agency in coordinating volunteer efforts for the flood victims.

The number of volunteers and the number of volunteer hours to date is as follows:

  • Volunteers: 1,136
  • Volunteer hours worked: 67,892 documented (some volunteers worked hours not reported to the Community Action Agency)
    • 87% of these hours were spent in the City
    • 13% of these hours were spent in the County

It is important to note that the 1,136 number of volunteers does include local churches and organizations. Not every individual who called in has been utilized as a volunteer to date due to conflicts with their schedule, the individual’s age/health, needs of the flooded areas/sites, etc.  All volunteer names will remain in a database.

The above figures on volunteer numbers and hours worked does include the 502 Fort Campbell soldiers who worked in both the city and county flood sites on Friday, May 7th. The various groups of soldiers worked between 6 to 8 hours at a number of different sites. The estimated number of volunteer hours worked by military is 3,514.

The single area that received the most volunteer attention was Riverside Drive from Hwy. 48/13 through the intersection at North 2nd Street and up Kraft Street.

The last request from the City or County for volunteer assistance was received on Monday, June 7th.  During the last three weeks, The Community Action Agency has focused most of its efforts on sites already identified as needing help.
