American Red Cross honors volunteers and unveils new ERV

The American Red Cross held their 93rd annual Annual Meeting & Volunteer Recognition Banquet Thursday night recognizing the contributions of their blood donors, their hard working volunteers, staff changes, selecting new board members, and discussing the future of the Clarksville-Montgomery Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The meeting was chaired by Merriel Bullock-Neal, the keynote speaker was Joel Sullivan who is the Regional CEO for the Middle Tennessee Area for the American Red Cross.  Sullivan discussed the impact of the Red Cross in Clarksville and throughout Tennessee during the last year, and especially during the Great Flood of 2010.

Both the City and County Mayors recognized the contributions of retiring Executive Director Linda D. McCoy who has for nine years  shepherded the local chapter through a series challenges including the 9/11 attacks, a Tornado, The destruction of their Emergency Response Vehicle by arson in 2008, financial hardships, and Great Flood of 2010 with the associated loss of their Riverside Drive headquarters. Throughout all that the Red Cross has been out in the community providing relief to people throughout the area in disasters both big and small.  Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers attended the Banquet and presented the award on behalf of the County.

A new Executive Director will be selected in the next few weeks to replace her. The Board of Directors had over sixty applications, and they have already narrowed the applicants down to eight. In the mean time the Chapter is under guidance of Interm Director Randy Weddle.

The American Red Cross recognized the great work by the Clarksville-Montgomery County Chapter during the Great Flood of 2010 by finding them a replacement Emergency Response Vehicle. E.R.V’s provide vital support services when the Red Cross responds to area disasters.

The volunteer awards were presented by by Randy Weddle, Cecil Stout, and Merriel Bullock-Neal. Stout is the Emergency Services Director.

Special recognition was given to the Volunteers of the year from various categories from the organization.

A Good Neighbor Award was given to Beach Oil Company for their in-kind support of the Local Chapter during the last year.

The Roger Winchester Community Education Award was given to LTC Steven Green.

The Clara Barton Honor Award went to Jean Kuglar, who also serves on the organizations Board of Directors as the 1st Vice Chairman.

The Local Chapter of the American Red Cross provides services to Montgomery County, Stewart County, Houston County, Fort Campbell, and Land Between The Lakes.

Comedy on the Cumberland

The Clarksville-Montgomery Chapter of the American Red Cross will be the beneficiary of the upcoming Comedy on the Cumberland event sponsored by F&M bank, Wendy’s of Clarksville, and Wyatt Johnson (Buick GMC Hyundai Subaru Mazda) , with Clarksville Online, Discover Clarksville, Ad One and Clarksville’s Best Buys, along with CDE Lightband are serving as the media partners. Comedy on the Cumberland is the brainchild of Hank Bonecutter, general manager of WJZM 1400 AM radio station, and a comedian.
