Fort Campbell soldier dies in Afghanistan

Fort Campbell, KY – A 101st Airborne Division Soldier died June 27th at Forward Operating Base Blessing, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.

Sgt. John M. Rogers, 26, was an infantryman assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault.)

He entered the Army in June 2004 and arrived at Fort Campbell in April 2009.

His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Combat Infantry Badge; Parachutists Badge; and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert.

Rogers is survived by his wife, Zuleika F. Rogers of Scottsdale, AZ; and father, John H. Rogers of Kansas City, MO.

A memorial service will be held in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony. The next ceremony will be held July 21st at 4:00pm and McAuliffe Hall.
