Fiscally Conservative Blue Dogs Endorse Roy Herron for Tennessee’s 8th District

Herron praised for ‘fiscal responsibility and accountability’

Blue Dog Conservative DemocratDresden, TN — The fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition announced today its endorsement of conservative Roy Herron for Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District, citing his commitment to fiscal responsibility and accountability.

The Blue Dogs, who represent the center of the House of Representatives, are dedicated to the financial stability and national security of the United States, and have consistently worked with members of both parties to promote common sense, middle-of-the-road policies.

The Blue Dog endorsement makes clear that Herron will stand up to anyone in Congress to curb reckless spending.

“The Blue Dogs have been fighting for fiscal responsibility and greater accountability in Washington for more than 15 years,” said Representative Jim Matheson, Blue Dog Co-Chair. “State Sen. Roy Herron has played a major role in balancing the budget in Tennessee, and his track record of fiscal responsibility and accountability exemplifies Blue Dog values.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group that Congressman John Tanner has worked hard to establish and grow in his efforts to restore fiscal responsibility in Washington,” Herron said. “As a U.S. congressman, I will fight for fiscal conservatism and do everything possible to stop wasteful spending.

“I still drive a truck with almost 400,000 miles on it. I don’t waste money, and I won’t waste your tax dollars,” Herron said. ““If we Tennesseans can make tough financial decisions, then Washington should too.”

In comments on the endorsement, coalition member John Tanner said, “The Blue Dog Coalition is known for its willingness to stand up to the leadership of both political parties to put the best interest of our districts and country above partisan political concerns. I believe West and Middle Tennesseans appreciate such a common-sense approach toward creating private sector jobs and restoring the economic health of America.

“Roy Herron has long been known for his independence. He has stood up to the leadership of both political parties, and he is recognized as one who did not hesitate to oppose Governors, be they Democrat or Republican, when he thought they were wrong. Roy brings to the table experience in balancing Tennessee’s budgets and has done so without raising taxes and by making common-sense cuts in spending that our people expect. True fiscal responsibility will be Roy Herron’s compass when he gets to Congress and that is why he got the Blue Dog endorsement.”

Former minister, small-town attorney and businessman, Roy Herron is running for Congress to bring jobs to Tennessee and restore fiscal responsibility to Washington. Herron has written three books, including Tennessee Political Humor and God and Politics: How Can a Christian Be in Politics? He lives in Dresden with his wife of 22 years, Nancy, and their three sons.
