The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family. This weeks highlights include:

The weather broke in time on Friday evening which allowed Tina Brown to perform.

Downtown Market

Clarksville Downtown MarketCome down to Public Square this Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm for the Clarksville Downtown Market.  The market will feature fresh, locally grown produce, nursery stock, handmade craft items, and other seasonal commodities.  You can also find baked goods, home décor, seasonal flowers and more!  After visiting, be sure to go to www.farmland.org/vote to cast your vote to select Clarksville’s Downtown Market- “America’s Favorite Farmers Markets”.

Movies in the Park

Movies in the ParkJoin us for our next viewing of Movies in the Park, Saturday, July 24th at Heritage Park Soccer fields for the viewing of Plane 51 rated PG.  Come early to save your spot and enjoy pre-show activities beginning an hour before the movie which will begin at dark.  Admission to the movie is free. Adult Softball Leagues Register TODAY

Adult Fall Softball Registration has begun! Deposits are due by 4:30pm, July 23rd, with final fees due by August 6th. Coaches packets will be ready for pick up at the Park & Recreation office after 2:00pm August 11th.  The season will begin August 15th at Heritage Park. Fall Adult CoEd Kickball League

It’s not just for recess anymore!  Teams can sign up now to begin playing at the Parks & Recreation Main Office located at 102 Public Square. Teams must consist of 11 to 20 players. The cost per team is $300.00 and includes 10 games, a single elimination tournament, and trophies.  Games will begin August 16th and runs through early November at Heritage Park.  All games will be played on Monday nights beginning at 6:30pm.

Zumba is Back

Join us at the Crow Community Center twice a week for Zumba which began July 14th.  This popular program combines music and dance in an effort to make exercise fun.  The class is offered Wednesday’s from 6:30pm to 7:30pm and Friday’s from 5:00pm-6:00pm.  The cost is $3.00 per class or $30.00 for the entire six-week session.  A community center ID card is required.

Party at the Pool

School is out, summer is here, so grab your friends and come “Party at the Pool” July 23rd from 6:30pm-9:00pm at Swan Lake Pool.  This event is part of our new summer series just for teens!  Each month from June through August, one monthly event is held at different locations for teens to enjoy music, games, and more- all in a safe environment. The events are free and open to teens ages 15 to 18.  A picture ID is required. For details, go to www.parksafterdark.com.

Sleep Under the Stars

Join us for a bonfire, archery, games, ghost stories and much more at our great family camp out, beginning Saturday July 24rd at 2:00pm until Sunday, July 25th at 9:00am at Billy Dunlop Park. The cost is $10.00 per person and will include an afternoon and evening of games as well as a hot dog dinner and breakfast. Families will need to provide their own tent and sleeping materials.  Children must be accompanied by an adult the entire campout.  Don’t miss out, pre-register by July 21st, 2010!

Billy Dunlop Park will be closed to the public beginning at 5:00pm on Tuesday, July 20th and will reopen to the public the following morning. The park will also be closed to the public Thursday, July 22nd and again Saturday, July 24th until Sunday, July 25th.
