Preparing for Operation Strong Eagle II

Kunar Province, Afghanistan – Coalition Forces leaders review tactical details of Operation Strong Eagle II at Forward Operating Base Joyce July 18th. The goal of the operation was to clear insurgents from the village of Chenar, deny them safe haven and extend the reach of reach of Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

The operation took place in the Ghaki Valley in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar province and involved approximately 425 Coalition Forces.

Scene where body found still being processed

The Clarksville Police Department Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Team are still processing the scene at Terminal Road.  Unfortunately even after the processing of the scene there will probably still be no further information that we will be able to provide until the Medical Examiner has completed their examination of the remains.

Housing Scorecard shows continued increase in Home Affordability, neighborhood stabilization, but challenges remain

July report on nation’s housing market includes new measures of affordability and tracks, for the first time, impact of the $6 billion NSP investment in hardest hit communities

Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of the Treasury today released the second edition of the Administration’s Housing Scorecard (www.hud.gov/scorecard) showing that, thanks in part to interest rates continuing at all-time lows, home affordability in the U.S. remains near the most attractive levels in 10 years.

In addition, for the first time, the report now tracks the impact of HUD’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP), which has spurred local investment and is beginning to make affordably-priced homes available to consumers. Speed Limit Reduced on Vietnam Veterans Boulevard

Nashville, TN — The Tennessee Department of Transportation will lower the speed limit on a large portion of Vietnam Veterans Boulevard (State Route 386) beginning Thursday, July 22nd, 2010. The speed limit will be reduced from 70 mph to 65 mph from the Davidson-Sumner County line near Mansker Creek to Greenlea Boulevard near Gallatin. Beyond Greenlea Boulevard, the incremental speed reductions already in place will remain. The speed limit on the stretch of Vietnam Veterans Boulevard from Interstate 65 to the Sumner County line will stay at 70 mph.

TDOT will also add “Curve Ahead” signs and 55 mph advisory speed limit signs in the curves near New Shackle Island Road and along the bridge that crosses over Gallatin Road. Installation of the new signs will begin on Thursday and will be complete by the first of next week. Kunar Province, Afghanistan – The back of the Chinook opened and the small team of scouts, mortarmen and infantrymen exited over knee-high piles of Meals Ready to Eat and bottled water into the darkness of Helicopter Landing Zone Hawk July 7th.

Days earlier, some of these same Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, Task Force No Slack, helped expel insurgents from the valley below during Operation Strong Eagle. Now they were back to ensure insurgents did not return by helping the Afghan National Army build a permanent outpost high above the Marawarah District.

Isotopes defeat Sounds, 9-7

Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds endured a 9-7 defeat at the hands of the Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday evening at historic Greer Stadium in a contest that featured more runs scored (16) than total hits (14).

The loss was the second in a row for Nashville (51-45) following a three-game win streak and dropped the Sounds a game and a half behind first-place Iowa, which swept a doubleheader against Oklahoma City.

The game got off to a sloppy start as the teams played a 37-minute first inning that including nine runs scored on only two hits. The clubs combined for four errors, five walks, a wild pitch, and a passed ball in the opening frame.

Sounds pitcher Chris Waters suffered through a disastrous start as Albuquerque plated six first-inning runs using only one hit. The left-hander matched his season high for walks in a game within the first seven batters of the contest, issuing five free passes over that stretch including one with the bases loaded. «Read the rest of this article»
