Clarksville Academy, a Pre-K through 12th grade private college preparatory school is excited to announce Jake Peterson as the Head Varsity Golf Coach and Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach. Head of Schools Kay Drew, announced Monday, August 2, 2010 that Jake Peterson would join the Clarksville Academy family as Head Varsity Golf Coach & Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach. Peterson joins CA after enjoying great success as an Assistant Baseball Coach. Drew said, “I am very pleased that we have Coach Peterson joining Clarksville Academy.  He is an extremely talented baseball coach and a golf enthusiast.  I have no doubt that his positive coaching style and strong organizational skills will continue to advance our athletic programs.”

Peterson grew up in Denver, Colorado and enjoyed success as a player on the high school baseball, golf and basketball teams. He received a baseball scholarship to Independence Community College in Kansas and then transferred to Austin Peay State University on scholarship. While at APSU, he was on the OVC Championship team in 2004 and 2005 and he was named to the All OVC Team for 2005. Peterson graduated from APSU with a Bachelors in Health & Human Performance and a Masters of Sports Administration and Wellness. Peterson was employed by APSU as the Hitting Coach and the Infield/Outfield Coach for five years.

Peterson is married to Nikki Loos Peterson of Clarksville and they have one infant son.

When asked about his move to CA Peterson replied, “My goals as coach are to continue to help prepare young people for their future by teaching them teamwork, communication, and skills needed to be successful on the field/course and in the classroom. I am forever grateful to Coach Wade Smith for giving me the opportunity to join his staff.  I look up to him as a coach but more importantly as a person and I know I will learn a lot from him throughout my time here. It’s very difficult to find an opening with a quality program and a quality staff within the town you live in. I am very lucky to have come across such a great opportunity at an outstanding institution like Clarksville Academy. I can’t wait to get started and am thankful to be a part of a great family at CA. I am thrilled to be the Head Golf Coach as well as Assistant Baseball Coach and I look forward to a great year with my new family!”

Kay Drew is also pleased to announce the addition of Mary Beth Burchett as Assistant Girl’s Varsity Basketball Coach. Burchett is a CA Alum and is currently a scholarship athlete at Austin Peay State University. Drew said, “Having Coach Mary Beth Burchett return to Clarksville Academy and assist Coach Jerome Jackson with the Varsity Girls Basketball program is a golden moment for our school.  She was an outstanding student/ athlete during her years at CA and now at Austin Peay State University.  She is an excellent role model for all our female student/ athletes.”

Matt Wallace, Athletic Director is looking forward to an exciting year of athletics at CA. “Jake and Mary Beth are tremendous hires for the Clarksville Academy family. I have followed Coach Peterson’s career as a player and a coach, and I know he will add a great deal to both the baseball and golf programs here at CA. Mary Beth brings knowledge of our athletic program with her. She is only a few years removed from being a student at CA, which will allow her to relate well with our student athletes. I know that these new coaches, paired with the current staff, will only make Cougar athletics that much more exciting. We are embarking on a new era of athletics at Clarksville Academy, and it will be one you won’t want to miss.”
