Student Traffic Awareness Training

Clarksville Police DepartmentStudent Traffic Awareness Training (STAT) began in January 2008 after a record number of teen traffic related deaths occurred in 2007. In 2008 Kaye Jones, President of the Citizens Police Academy partnered with the Clarksville Police Department to put together a free teen drivers  training course designed to help teach teens the responsibility of driving and how to stay alive behind the wheel.

The Program has been updated each year to keep up with the changing trends related to teen accidents. In 2010, Jones said we added texting and driving to the course because so many teen accidents are related to distractions like texting. The instructors for this four, hour hands on class are Clarksville Police Officers who bring their real life experiences to the class.

The next Student Traffic Awareness Training (STAT) Class will be August 28th, 2010 from 8:00am till 12:00 Noon at 106 Public Square.  The class is open to High School Students ages 15 – 19 from Montgomery and surrounding cities and counties.

Applications are available at Police Headquarters located at 135 Commerce Street or download applications at www.clarksvillepd.org.  Applications will be taken up until 8:00am August 28th, 2010.
