Seventh Graders Face Immunization Deadline

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemClarksville, TN – The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is communicating with parents of more than 800 seventh graders that their children have not yet met state vaccination requirements.

State law requires that all seventh graders receive the  tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis booster and a second dose of the chicken pox vaccine or provide to the school a temporary certificate of immunization which serves as official notice that a vaccination appointment has been made for the student.

If required documentation is not provided by Monday, October 18th, 2010, students will not be allowed to attend school until the official certificate is provided that the vaccine has been given or a temporary certificate is produced.

Due to the large numbers of students affected by this, the School System extended the original state-mandated deadline from Friday, October 1st to Monday, October 18th. The school system has 2181 seventh graders enrolled in its seven middle schools. Schools have contacted parents through a variety of methods and will be sending another telephone notification tonight and will follow up with a letter if the numbers don’t improve significantly. Fall break in CMCSS is October 11th-15th.

Students may get their shots at their physician’s office by appointment, the local Health Department or Walgreens’ walk in clinic which is open on Saturday and Sunday. Appointments also are available at Matthew Walker Clinic off Dover Road.
