IED kills Fort Campbell Soldier

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A 101st Airborne Division Soldier died September 29th, when struck by an improvised explosive device while on a dismounted foot patrol in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan.

Sergeant Justin A. Officer, 26, of Wichita, KS, was a Cavalry Scout assigned to Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).  He joined the Army in March 2004 and arrived at Fort Campbell in July 2004.    

Sergeant Justin A. OfficerHis awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Meritorious Unit Citation; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Combat Action Badge and Air Assault Badge.

Officer is survived by his father, Timothy A. Officer of Colorado Springs, CO and mother, Linda G. Officer.

A memorial service will be held in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor fallen Screaming Eagles. The next ceremony will be held October 13th at 4:00pm at the Family Resource Center.
