APSU Men’s Golf
Beachwood, OH – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team will have to settle for third place at the Telich/Sunlife Financial, after the final round was rained out, Tuesday, at Canterbury Golf Club.
The Govs moved into third after a second-round 293, Monday. NAIA Malone takes the team title with a 13-over par 581, followed by Oakland (587), the Govs (589), Wright State (590) and host Cleveland State (591) to round out the top five.
A rain out is disappointing for Austin Peay after showing some zest on the tough Canterbury course. In fact, for the first time this season, the Govs had three players finish in the top 15, perhaps the biggest bright spot being senior Brian Balthrop’s second-round 71, his first even-par round this season.
Senior Luke Sherrod finished in eighth (72-73=145), followed by freshman Anthony Bradley (75-71=146) in 11th and Balthrop (76-71=147) in 14th. Freshman Marco Iten (73-78=151) finished 28th and freshman Trey Tarpley (76-82=158) ended at 61st.
Austin Peay returns to action at Cincinnati’s Bearcat Invitational, next Monday. That will be the final tune up before the Govs host the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, October 18th-19th, at The Links at Novadell.
