Faces of combat: Task Force Bulldog

An estimated two dozen Insurgents fired rocket-propelled grenades, heavy machine guns and small arms at the post in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar Province. International Security Assistance Forces and ANP responded in kind with small arms, heavy machine gun and mortar fire. Neither ISAF nor ANP personnel were injured during the attack.

Kunar Province, Afghanistan – U.S. Army Spc. Jordan E. Martinez of Canby, OR, a gunner for 4th Platoon, Company D, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Bulldog, pauses after opening fire with his .50-caliber machine gun against insurgents who shot at his unit’s convoy September 18th in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar Province.

The encounter occurred after a more than three-hour fire fight at the Shege East Afghan National Police checkpoint. Neither ISAF nor ANP personnel were injured during either attack.

Kunar Province, Afghanistan – U.S. Army Pfc. Claudio J. Wilson of Brooklyn, NY, a grenadier with 1st Platoon, Company A, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Bulldog, scans a nearby ridgeline after returning fire against an enemy sniper from a mountaintop observation post in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar Province September 21st.

The unit and Afghan National Army troops visited Observation Post Rocky to help prepare for transferring the base from the Afghan National Police to the ANA by the end of October. The handover will allow more police officers to be placed at stations closer to more heavily populated areas. A sniper fired numerous shots at the ISAF and ANA during the September 21st visit, but no troops were injured in the attack.

Schumacher of Savannah, TN, a squad leader with 1st Platoon, Company A, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, Task Force Bulldog, scans the area from a mountaintop observation post in eastern Afghanistan’s Kunar Province after being shot at by an enemy sniper September 21st.
