101st Airborne Soldier killed by small arms fire

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division

Fort Campbell, KY – A 101st Airborne Division Soldier died October 13th, when conducting a dismounted operation, the unit came under attack with small arms fire in Yahya Kheyl, Paktia Province, Afghanistan.

Jordan M. ByrdPrivate First Class Jordan M. Byrd, 19, of Grantsville, Utah, was a Combat Medic assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).  He joined the Army in September 2009 and arrived at Fort Campbell in April 2010.    

His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and Army Service Ribbon.

Byrd is survived by his wife, Savanna M. Byrd; son Ayden Byrd both of Clarksville, Tennessee; mother, Roberta Lynn Pitt of Grantsville, Utah; and father Jerald J. Brost, of Casper, WY.

A memorial service will be held in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor fallen Screaming Eagles.
