Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team got a two-week checkup as it held a scrimmage during Friday night’s “Reigning Red” festivities at the Dunn Center.

The Lady Govs, who started practice October 3rd, saw its two centers – junior Jasmine Rayner and sophomore Kaitlyn Hill – had impressive outings. Rayner was 4-for-5 from the field and scored nine points. Hill also made 4-of-5 field goals and finished with eight points and three assists.

Among the guards, sophomore Neika Smith finished with four points and three assists. Senior Brooke Faulkner added three points. No other player had more than two points.

Despite the lack of offense from her guards, Friday night, head coach Carrie Daniels still was pleased with her team’s performance during the 14-minute scrimmage.

“I felt like it was a great effort,” said Daniels. “We got up and down the court. We did a great job of feeding the posts inside and they did a good job finishing. We still have to work on ball pressure defensively and making good decisions offensively. Another thing we did well was  we were conscious of running our offense. The past few days in practice we were a little inpatient and weren’t getting into our sets.”
