IED Kills Fort Campbell Soldier

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A 101st Airborne Division Soldier died October 20th, when struck by an improvised explosive device while on a dismounted foot patrol in Maquan, Zahri District, Afghanistan.

Specialist Gerald R. Jenkins, 19, of Circleville, OH, was a Combat Engineer assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). He joined the Army in October 2008 and arrived at Fort Campbell in March 2009.

Gerald R. JenkinsHis awards and decorations include: Army Achievement Medal; Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge.

Jenkins is survived by his father, Roger D. Jenkins and mother Carla K. McNamara both of Circleville, OH.

A memorial service will be held in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor fallen Screaming Eagles. The next ceremony will be held November 10th at 4:00pm.
