Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s basketball team showed some offensive potential in Sunday afternoon’s scrimmage.
The Black team rolled up 84 points and the White 66 as nine different players rolled up double-figures as the Governors prepare for Thursday’s 7:00pm, exhibition opener against Central Missouri.
“I think we were better offensively than defensively,” APSU coach Dave Loos said. “I was pleased in it is the first time where we ran the clock in a game-like situation, so I was concerned about how many points we could put in a 40-minute period. What we did was acceptable, but at the same time I don’t think we were very good defensively.
Anthony Campbell, a preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, led the Black team scoring with 19 points while junior college transfer guard Tyshwan Edmondson added 16 and fellow juco newcomer Melvin Baker contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. The third juco transfer, Josh Terry collected 11 points, four offensive rebounds and four assists. Returning center John Fraley added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Caleb Brown supplied eight points, on perfect four-for-four shooting, plus four assists.
For the White team, freshman guard Thomas Greer led the way with 15 points while point guard Tyrone Caldwell added 14 points and five assists. Freshman walk-on Alton Williams had 10 points as did freshman forward Will Triggs, who also had seven rebounds. In fact, Triggs’ combined numbers from playing with both clubs were 16 points, including one monstrous dunk over Fraley, and 10 rebounds.
