Austin Peay and Purdue are not strangers, having faced each other within the last 10 years. The Boilermakers hosted the Lady Govs in the 2002 NCAA Tournament’s first round. Purdue won that contest 80-49 before falling in the tournament’s second round.

The Lady Govs tuned up for Friday’s opener with an 84-37 victory against NAIA member Cumberland, Monday. Junior Whitney Hanley scored 28 points in the contest, making 10-of-13 from the field and all eight of her three-point attempts. Sophomore Kaitlyn Hill came off the bench to score 14 points and grab nine rebounds. In addition, sophomore Neika Smith came off the bench to lead the Lady Govs with six assists while senior Dalila Thomas posted five blocks.

Purdue won both of its exhibition contests, defeating Division II Wisconsin-Parkside (88-48), November 1st,  before dispatching Division II Indianapolis (99-43), Sunday. Brittany Rayburn averaged 19.5 points per game in the exhibitions while KK Houser chipped in 18.5 points per game. The Boilermaker defense forced 24 turnovers in each of the exhibition outings.

Next Up For The Lady Govs

If the Lady Govs defeat Purdue they will travel to the winner of the Toledo-St.Francis contest for a game to be played either Sunday or Monday. If the Lady Govs lose at Purdue they will return home to face in-state rival Middle Tennessee – in the 64th meeting all-time in the series – in a 7:00pm, Tuesday contest.
