Written by Task Force Bastogne Public Affairs Office

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionBastogneKunar Province, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces and Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, conducted an air assault into the eastern Pech River Valley in continued pursuit of militant fighters in the Kunar Province November 12th.

Acting on information of Taliban activity and fighters in the area, the combined force moved into the Watapur Valley, clearing the region of insurgent fighters as well as searching for weapon caches.

Initial reports indicate four insurgents have been killed.

The ANSF and International Security Assistance Forces took deliberate steps to avoid injuring innocent civilians during the operation.

“The [ANSF] and Task Force Bastogne are determined that the insurgents operating in the Pech River Valley will not have a place from which to launch their violence and terror,” said U.S. Army Col. Andrew Poppas, Task Force Bastogne commander. “Operations like this help rid the area of these terrorists and their brutal ideology.”

Operations are ongoing.
