Edmondson and Terry named OVC co-Newcomers of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Juniors Tyshwan Edmondson and Josh Terry, of the Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team were named the Ohio Valley Conference co-Newcomers of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The pair of junior-college transfers led the Govs in a 64-61 win at St. Louis, Friday, in non-conference action. A guarantee game for the Govs, Edmondson and Terry thrived defensively in the second half helping the Govs overcome an eight-point deficit. With 4.2 seconds left, Edmondson buried a pair of clutch free throws to seal the road victory against a team picked to finish sixth in the 14-team Atlantic-10 field.

Terry finished with 18 points, including a 4-for-4 effort at the free-throw line. The Three Rivers product did not miss a shot in the first half, and scored 10 points in the final stanza. Edmondson, meanwhile, also had 10 second-half points en route to a 17-point APSU debut. The Midland College transfer scored six straight points to spark the Govs comeback run.

Following Edmondson’s free throws, Terry made a game-clinching steal with less than two seconds remaining. Terry finished with three steals, while Edmondson grabbed six second-half rebounds.

It was the Govs first season-opening win since the 2004-05 season when they downed St. Louis, in the Virgin Islands, at the Paradise Jam.
