After Thanksgiving respite, Governors return to Chicago Invitational play

Governors seek to snap 3-game skid against Bucs

Austin Peay State University GovernorsHoffman Estates, IL – Austin Peay’s road show has gone almost due north as the Governors will play Charleston Southern, noon, Friday, in third game of the Chicago Invitational Challenge, to be held at the Sears Centre Arena.

The Governors first two games of the tourney were played at Southern Illinois, Sunday, and Purdue, Tuesday.

APSU is now halfway through a grueling early-season road trek that will see them play nine games away from Clarksville before they play its regular-season home opener, December 7th, against Lipscomb. Although the Governors will not be playing at home, Friday, at least this contest is a neutral-site affair.

After a 2-0 start, the Governors now have lost three straight, including an 87-65 loss at No. 8/10 Purdue, Tuesday. At times, the Governors played some of their season’s best basketball against the highly-regarded Boilermakers. But a season-high 18 turnovers led to the Governors undoing.

The Governors will face a Charleston Southern team that suffered an 85-67 loss at Southern Illinois, Tuesday night. The Buccaneers also enter Friday’s contest with a 2-3 record. The Bucs are a guard-oriented club, led by senor Jamarco Warren (14.6 ppg), one of the Big South’s best performers. Charleston Southern already has attempted 97 three pointers–25 more than that Govs–in five games.

Austin Peay, meanwhile, hopes it can continue its inside-outside production displayed against Purdue. Junior center John Fraley recorded his season’s first double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. He also received some help from Melvin Baker (eight points) and freshman Will Triggs (eight points, all in the second half).

From the perimeter, it again was junior Tyshwan Edmondson, who led the Governors in scoring for a third straight game with 16 points. It was the first time Edmondson started this season as fellow juco transfer Josh Terry was forced to sit with a hip injury.
