Basketball Governors roll past Fontbonne

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University raced out to a 20-2 start and were never threatened as it defeated Division III Fontbonne, 112-52, Saturday night, in non-conference basketball action played at Dave Aaron Arena.

The victory improved the Governors to 6-5 overall while Fontbonne slips to 2-6.

Five Governors scored in double figures, led by TyShwan Edmondson, who had 20 points in only 23 minutes. Melvin Baker added 16 points while freshman forward Will Triggs added 12 off the bench. Josh Terry, making the start at forward in place of Anthony Campbell, who is out for the season with a knee injury, tossed in 12 points and added seven rebounds.

Freshman walk-on Alton Williams scored 10 points off the bench as all Governors who dressed played at least 10 minutes.

Austin Peay shot 57.3 percent for the game, connecting on 43 of 75 shots while outrebounding the smaller Griffins by a 46-26 margin. The Governors also committed a season-low six turnovers on the night.

No Fontbonne player reached double figures scoring-wise as Freddie Fleming led the Griffins with nine points and eight rebounds.

The 112 points were the most by the Governors since scoring 116 in a triple overtime loss to Southeast Missouri in the 2007-08 season. It was APSU’s most points scored in a home victory since the Govs scored 117 against Bryan College in 1993-94.
