Pitts Appointed to Serve on Commerce, Education Committees

Pitts’ priorities to include job creation and improvements for Tennessee students and teachers

The Seal of the State of TennesseeNashville, TN – State Rep. Joe Pitts Thursday was appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve on the Commerce and Education committees in the 107th General Assembly.

“I’m excited about the new year and plan to use these positions to further the education and job opportunities for Clarksville and the state of Tennessee,” said Pitts (D-Clarksville). “We have made education and jobs the hallmark of our service in the House of Representatives and these appointments will help continue that emphasis for our next term.”

“The work on these committees will be very important in improving the opportunities for working families and our students.”

Pitts will also serve on the general subcommittees of Education and Commerce. These subcommittees are designed, through in depth study, to filter out less practical bills filed in each standing committee.

The Legislature is expected to work through Saturday and recess until early February to allow new members and staff to settle into their new offices.

“I feel very hopeful that we can accomplish some great things this year,” Pitts said
