Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University student-athletes posted a 2.940 grade-point average – their sixth consecutive semester with a GPA of 2.90 or better – during the recently completed Fall 2010 semester, director of athletics Dave Loos announced, Tuesday.

The department saw 155 student-athletes named to the Fall 2010 Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, representing 45.8 percent of the department’s 338 student-athletes. Included in that tally are 21 student-athletes who were named to the President’s List – recording a perfect 4.0 GPA – and a record 85 student-athletes who were named to APSU’s Dean’s List, earning a 3.5 or better GPA.

“The success of our student-athletes in the classroom is one of our top goals,” said Loos. “To see them succeed at the level they have the past few years is certainly encouraging. Our student-athletes deserve the bulk of the credit for this success, but I also want to thank our academic services group for their hard work in helping our student-athletes find success.”

Eight of the department’s 14 teams posted a 3.0 GPA for the semester, led by the women’s golf team which posted an impressive 3.738 GPA. All nine of the team’s members earned the athletics director’s honor roll recognition, including four president’s lists honorees.

The other teams posting 3.0 or better GPAs were men’s tennis (3.566), volleyball (3.300), women’s tennis (3.277) women’s cross country (3.272), women’s soccer (3.249), men’s cross country (3.185) and softball (3.171).
