Mayor issues statement on CDE opinion by Attorney General

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan has issued a brief comment on the state Attorney General’s opinion regarding the hiring of Johnny Piper as superintendant of the Clarksville Department of Electricity.

The Mayor received a copy of the opinion this afternoon while in meetings tending to city business and has not had an opportunity to fully review the documents.

She did note that the opinion answers the specific question that the city ordinance restricting the eligibility of a former elected city official to be hired as superintendent does not apply. However, the opinion did conclusively opine that CDE is a department of the city.

“This issue has been a great distraction for my administration to conduct city business during the first 40 days I have been in office, and to the good employees of CDE and the citizens of Clarksville,” McMillan said. “With the question settled, it is time for the city to move forward.”
