Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health CenterWalker Comprehensive Health Center has an exciting opportunity available for a skilled, resourceful and motivated physician in the medical specialty of Dental Medicine, who would like to make a difference in the lives of others by helping a non-for-profit organization fulfill its mission to provide quality health care.

The Associate Dental Director assists in the implementation of policies and establishment of procedures for dental services; to diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of the teeth, gums, and related oral structure; to represent Dental Services on committees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are indicative of the essential functions required to perform this job successfully. Other duties may be assigned by management.
Regularly monitors procedures for adequate care of emergency patients.

  • Replaces absent dentists or provides needed coverage at the Nashville or Clarksville location as needed.
  • Ensures that Hygienists and Dental Assistants appropriately execute the plan of care following professional diagnosis, by challenging them to utilize the most effective knowledge and skills.
  • Acts to safeguard professional ethics and standards of dentistry; to ensure compliance with the provisions, rules, and regulations of federal, state, local, and accrediting agencies, including the formal supervision of Dentist, Hygienists, Assistants, and other Dental Staff
  • Attends administrative meetings; and manages administrative duties as needed
  • Serves as preceptor to dental assisting students
  • Attending for both dental students and residents
  • Ensures that all policies and procedures relevant to the health center are followed
  • Participates in at least, but is not limited to, the minimum required Continuing Education hours
  • Attends leadership and Enterprise Practice Management (EPM) training as needed
  • Arrives at work on time and complies with MWCHC attendance and tardiness policies
  • Possesses the ability to get along with co-workers, patients and visitors
  • Leads weekly dental team meetings
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CLINICAL PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

Must be capable of performing extensive dental services including Molar Endo, Extractions of impacted third molars, Complete Smile Designs, Rehabilitative Cosmetic Procedures, Implants, and other procedures of the like.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

DDS or DMD from an accredited School of Dentistry and licensure to practice in the state of Tennessee required. (License must be maintained throughout employment.) Must have, and maintain, an active membership in local, state, or national dental associations with significant credits in continuing education. Completion of Dental Internship, One (1) year of clinical dental experience, and appointment as adjunct faculty to Meharry Medical College is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional/medical journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Must be proficient in the extraction of medical information from patient records. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to comprehend/apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra and advanced statistical theory and proofs of theorems. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, and the quadratic equation as a determinant of test validity, analysis of variance, correlation of techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis. Must have the ability to work with other concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ablility to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.).

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Requires excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be able to resolve any and all clinical and/or patient issues that arise. Must possess the ability to work efficiently and effectively with all levels of the organization. Previous experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer, or another web browser, is preferred. Excellent organizational skills with acute attention to detail are a must. Supervisory experience is required. Must be self-motivated and comfortable working on several projects in concurrence. Must be forward thinking and innovative. Strong presentation skills required. Must be patient-focused with excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Must have a strong work ethic.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods of time; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear. Individual may occasionally lift up to 15 lbs. Repetitive motion is required.

Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Works in a typical clinical environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

May require potential exposure to at-risk health conditions, blood borne pathogens, chemicals, medications, X-Ray, O2 and other potential health and/or safety hazards typical of a medical environment. Employee is required to be aware of and in compliance with MWCHC, state and federal OSHA regulations as they pertain to these factors, and others typical of a clinical setting.

COMMENTS

This position is considered medium work with occasional repetitive motion.
