APSU Women’s Tennis
Cincinnati, OH – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Xavier, Saturday night in Cincinnati. The loss dropped the Lady Govs to 1-1 overall.
Junior Vanja Tomic highlighted the Lady Govs efforts with a three-set win at No. 1 singles. Not only did the win continue her impressive 18-match win streak, but it also was her first three-set match since defeating UT Martin’s Jodie Tiley, May 27th, 2010.
Freshman Kimberly Loo picked up the Lady Govs other win, coming in straight sets at No. 4 singles. Fellow freshman Rachel Margolies lost in a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles, while sophomore Carolin Weikard fell (7-5, 7-5) at No. 2 singles. It was Weikard’s first loss in 14 matches.On the doubles side, Austin Peay played without a No. 3 doubles team and split the top two matches, allowing Xavier to take the point. Weikard and Loo won at No. 1, while it was Tomic and freshman Andra Cornea falling at No. 2.
The Lady Govs will look to get things back on track when they play host to Western Kentucky in a 2:00pm, Friday match at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.
