Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – With the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships looming, Austin Peay State University women’s track and field team will be looking to fine tune at its final regular-season indoor event, Southeast Missouri’s Redhawks Invitational, in Cape Girardeau, MO.

The Lady Govs will join Southeast Missouri, Murray State and Memphis, among others in the small indoor meet with hopes of establishing consistency in a number of events. Unlike other indoor events, the Redhawks Invitational will feature shortened events such as the 300-meter dash, the 600-meter run and the 1000-meter run.

“Everyone will step down an event,” head coach Doug Molnar said. “We’ve started to ease off the training this week as far as volume goes, but have definitely increased our intensity.”

Senior Chiamaka Obi is one of several sprinters who has developed  more consistency as the season has progressed. Her 56.75 time in the 400-meter ranks fifth-best in the OVC, while her 200-meter time (25.61) is just outside the top-10. Sophomore Leigha Tolliver ranks inside the top 10 with a 9.16 time in the 60-meter hurdles; she’ll run the 55-meter hurdles at SEMO.

Chiamaka ObiAfter setting a school-record triple-jump mark in the season’s first meet, sophomore Cenitra Hudson has struggled to find efficient jumps. Keyvia Davis broke out with a 5.54m long-jump mark, which is the OVC’s fifth-best, at the SIU Saluki Open. It was her best long jump since her freshman year. Freshman April Holman, meanwhile, has a 1.65m high jump mark is the league’s second-best.

“We’ll need to work on getting more consistency in the jumps,” Molnar said. “We need to be better on the board in the long and triple jumps and hopefully we’ll be able to do that this week. This week is all about going out, competing with confidence and getting set for the indoor championship.”
