APSU Men’s Tennis
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men’s tennis team hosts a pair of weekend matches, beginning with a 6:00pm, Friday match against Western Kentucky, followed by a 6:00pm, Saturday match against SIU Edwardsville. All matches will be played at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center and admission is free.
The Govs (3-2) will be looking for improved play at the bottom of the lineup in order to maintain the momentum being generated from their strong doubles play. Through five matches, the Govs have been perfect in winning the doubles point, having lost only three of 15 doubles matches thus far.
Ademovic also has seen success on the singles side, splitting time at Nos. 1 and 2 with Norbiato. Bailey, meanwhile, has posted a 3-1 mark at No. 3. Looking at No. 4, Calleja has struggled to a 1-4 mark while sophomore John Storie and freshman Joao Pagan share a 5-5 mark at the Nos. 5 and 6.
Western Kentucky (1-3), enters Friday’s match reeling following home losses to Lipscomb and Murray State. The Hilltoppers have yet to win at No. 1 singles, while Arul Selvan is a perfect 3-0 at No. 2. Selvan and Robert Whitmer have lost two straight at No. 1 doubles, while Lance Freeman and Currie Martin have back-to-back losses at No. 3 doubles.
SIU Edwardsville (0-4) will be looking for its season’s first win, Saturday, with losses to St. Louis, Eastern Illinois, Wright State and IUPUI. The bright spot for the Cougars has been Paulo Gonzalez with a 3-1 mark at No. 1 singles. After losing in straight sets to APSU’s Ademovic in the Austin Peay Fall Invite, Gonzalez went on to win the Flight-A Consolation round. The Cougars are still searching for the right combinations on the doubles side, having played with seven different teams in four matches.
