About the Performers

Knapsackheros

KnapsackherosIt would appear that change is the only consistent factor in life. This reality is cascading through the music industry, leaving confusion and dismay in its wake. If we can look past the drop in SoundScan figures, a few things seem to remain constant: that hard work and talent pay off and that music at its base level has the innate ability to evolve, molding itself to the current trends of the day.

No one understands this idea and the need for hard work and flexibility better than Nashville’s eclectic band KNAPSACKHEROES!.

This call for diversity was heard by five talented men that would soon unite to become KNAPSACKHEROES! These brave soles are Vinyl Jones (lead vocals, keys and production), Eric Coomer (lead vocals, guitar and keys), Nick Waugh (bass and bgvs), Kevin Tetuan (guitar, keys, bgvs) and Justin Mitchell (drums and percussion).

Quiet Entertainer

Quiet EntertainerA self-proclaimed “introverted extrovert,” Greg Freeman — known as the Quiet Entertainer — has always had a flair for performance and theatrics. While visiting New York for his Spring Break trip, he saw Blue Man Group and marveled at their stage presence and musical talent. He knew that he wanted to be an intriguing performer.

While in college, he was studying Theater but also was gravitating towards music. Late one night while watching a techno music show on MTV, he saw a video for DJ Shadow. He instantly crowned Shadow as his musical hero. He began to explore the DJ culture in both hip-hop and electronic music. It was during this time that the name “Quiet Entertainer” was formed.

Vinyl Thief

Vinyl ThiefVinyl Thief stems from humble beginnings. Forming in the small town of Columbia, Tennessee as simply a group of friends, Vinyl Thief found a musical direction that they have been developing for four years now. With an old, abandoned church cathedral at their disposal for writing and recording, the band was able to craft unique sounds big enough to fill the most spacious of venues.

Though the five band members—Grayson Proctor (vocals, synthesizers), Sam English (Rhodes, synthesizers, background vocals), Andrew Broadway (drums, percussion, programming), Logan Purdom (guitars, textures) and Alec Carpenter (bass)—are barely into their 20s, their talent suggests years of experience. Their songs are textured, soaring, self-confident, their debut EP fully realized.

James Fate

James FateHe grew up in a home with a mother who had been a folk singer in Greenwich village during the 60’s. He learned to appreciate message focused songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. As he grew up he became attracted to the straightforward lyricism that he heard in hip hop music. At the age of 17 he underwent a powerful spiritual transformation and made a life commitment regarding his Christian faith. During that time he discovered a gift to write rap lyrics. This became the perfect outlet for him to communicate his faith, and to express the frustrations that a young man of faith goes through.

During his time in Washington State he performed regularly at Church for all Nations in Tacoma,WA and Club Corridor in Federal Way, WA. He also won several freestyle competitions and organized an emcee competition called the Clash of the Crews at Church for all Nations in April 2006. As Nate James, he released the See No Evil mixtape in June 2006 with fellow Tacoma rapper Blind Rage. In October 2006, James Fate moved to Nashville,TN to fully pursue a musical career. He has had the privilege to freestyle regularly on the stage of B.B. King’s in downtown Nashville, and performs regularly at Cafe Coco, also in Nashville,TN. Currently James Fate’s sound continues to evolve.
