APSU Women’s Tennis
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team used a strong singles attack to pick up a 5-2 win against future Ohio Valley Conference opponent SIU Edwardsville, Saturday.
Without a healthy No. 6 player, the Lady Govs had to win all five singles matches after losing the doubles point without a No. 3 doubles team.
Sophomore Carolin Weikard and freshman Kimberly Loo remain undefeated at No. 1 doubles after an 8-2 win against Rachel Webb and Joanna Corkern. Weikard and Loo have now won first three matches. Junior Vanja Tomic and freshman Andra Cornea lost 8-6 at No. 2 doubles; suffering their second-straight defeat.On the singles side, the Lady Govs were strong as always. Tomic rolled to a straight-set win at No. 1, pacing the top four singles matches. Freshman Rachel Margolies had to overcome a second-set loss to win 10-4 in a tiebreak at No. 5 singles.
The Lady Govs play their next four matches on the road, beginning with a 5:00pm, Saturday match against Miami (Ohio) in Louisville.
