Hankins named CIAF APSU Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Jordan Hankins, a freshman on the Austin Peay State University baseball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Jordan HankinsHankins, of Wentzville, MO, was 8-of-13 (.615) with five RBI in the Govs opening weekend against Valparaiso. He began his collegiate career with a 4-for-5, two-RBI performance, Friday.

He followed that with a 3-for-5, RBI effort in the Govs extra-inning victory, Saturday, with a pair of doubles and a sacrifice fly. Hankins finished the weekend with a 1-for-3, two-RBI effort in which he reached base three times. Monday, he was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

  • Freshman Zach Toney, of the baseball team, was named the OVC’s Pitcher of the Week, Monday. He closed the Govs weekend in fine fashion, retiring all 12 batters he faced in four relief innings to pick up the save, Sunday. He began his outing with four consecutive strikeouts and finished the game with seven strikeouts.
  • Junior TyShwan Edmondson, of the men’s basketball team, averaged 21.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game as the Govs split a pair of game’s, last week. He scored 29 points in the Govs BracketBuster loss against Metro Atlantic champion Fairfield. He also had 14 points in the Govs OVC win at Jacksonville State.
  • Junior Jasmine Rayner, of the women’s basketball team, averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in a pair of Lady Govs’ OVC wins, last week. Rayner had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds at JSU. She closed the week with an 11-point, five-rebound effort in APSU’s upset win at Tennessee Tech.
  • Freshman Will Triggs, of the men’s basketball team, had his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds at Fairfield, Saturday. It was his sixth-straight double-figure scoring game and seven of his 10 rebounds were on the offensive glass.
