DoD Recovering Warrior Task Force Visits Fort Campbell

Recovering Warrior Task ForceFort Campbell, KY – Task Force Co-Chair Dr. Karen Guice, Lt Col Sean Keane (USMC), CDR Timothy Coakley (USN), MSgt Christian MacKenzie, and Dr. Steven Phillips of the Department of Defense Task Force on the Care, Management, and Transition of Recovering Wounded, Ill, and Injured Members of the Armed Forces, commonly known as the Recovering Warrior Task Force (RWTF), will be visiting Fort Campbell on March 8th and 9th.

Task Force Members will participate in focus groups with recovering warriors and their families. The purpose of these focus groups is to provide RWTF with a real and contemporary understanding of the experiences of recovering warriors and the programs offered to them and their families.

Additionally, RWTF seeks to find ways in which programs can better support our nation’s wounded, ill, and injured service members through their recovery and transition either back to active duty or into civilian life. They will be meeting with individuals from all grade ranges at various points during their visit.

In addition to Fort Campbell, RWTF will also be travelling to multiple installations throughout the nation to gather information from all the services to prepare for the annual report through which they will provide recommendations to the Secretary of Defense in September,
    
The Recovering Warrior Task Force was chartered on November 18th, 2010 and consists of 14 members; seven from the Department of Defense and seven non-Department members. The co-chairs of RWTF are Lieutenant General Charles B. Green, MD, USAF and Dr. Karen S. Guice, MD, MPP of the Department of Veterans Affairs. 
 
RWTF is committed to gathering and analyzing information from a range of sources in order to provide the best possible recommendations to the Secretary of Defense on the care and support provided to recovering warriors and their families. The Members seek to find methods that can enhance the ways which these service members are supported and to improve the experience for their families as well.

About The Recovering Warrior Task Force

The Recovering Warrior Task Force (RWTF) will provide the Department of Defense (DoD) with advice and recommendations on matters and policies relating to case management, staffing of wounded warrior organizations, establishment and effectiveness of performance and accountability standards, availability of services for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), establishment and effectiveness of the Defense Centers of Excellence, effectiveness of the Interagency Program Office, effectiveness of wounded warrior information resources, support available to family caregivers, legal support available, availability of vocational training, effectiveness of programs to improve or enhance the Disability Evaluation System (DES), support and assistance provided to members as they progress through DES, support systems in place to ease the transition from DoD to Veterans Affairs (VA), interagency matters affecting members in their transition to civilian life, effectiveness of the Senior Oversight Committee, overall coordination between the Departments, and such other matters as the RWTF considers appropriate.
