Golf Govs in 20th with final round to play at USF Invitational

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Sophomore Dustin Korte fired an even-par second round, but Austin Peay State University men’s golf team remains 20th at the USF Invitational, played at Lake Jovita Golf Club, with one round to play.

Middle Tennessee continues to lead the event at 25-under par, 20 strokes ahead of second-place North Texas. Ohio Valley Conference member Jacksonville State is 13th after a second-round 299. The Govs improved 11 shots from an opening-round 315 with a second-round 304.

Korte made eagle on No. 9 to offset a quad on the par-three No. 7. That eagle brought his front nine score to one-over. He then made three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to wrap his season’s best round.

Senior Luke Sherrod battled through a bogey-ridden round to shoot four-over par. Freshman Marco Iten went for five-over par, largely in part to four bogeys on the back nine. Freshman Trey Tarpley, meanwhile, shot seven-over par, matching two birdies with two double-bogeys.

Korte’s even-par second round has him t-66 (152) with 18 holes to play. Sherrod is t-72 (153) and Iten trails him by two strokes t-82 (155). Tarpley is t-96 (159) while senior Brian Balthrop is 104 with a two-round 176.

The Govs tee off the final round in a 7:30am, shotgun start, alongside Florida Southern College and Rhode Island.
