“This should be a good opener for us as we get ready for the outdoor season,” head coach Doug Molnar said. “I know our fitness is good coming off indoors and the weather will be good, so we expect some good things.”

Senior Chiamaka Obi has plenty of reasons to be excited about the outdoor season. She will compete in her first 400-meter dash, Saturday, a race in which she is the two-time outdoor OVC champion. Obi leads a talented group of sprinters that will put teams in each of Friday’s relays – the 4×400 and 4×200.

Austin Peay is looking to clean things up after a disappointing sixth-place finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships, February 26th. Freshman April Holman was one of the Lady Govs few highlights during the championships with a second-place high-jump finish. Holman, along with sophomore Jessica Runyon-Davis, hopes to get the jump crew back on track outdoors.

Cenitra HudsonSophomore Cenitra Hudson, who set the indoor APSU school triple-jump record in early January, and junior Leigha Tolliver, the 2010 Indoor Freshman of the Year, also will be integral in the long and triple jumps. Junior Keyvia Davis and Holman also will participate in the long and triple jumps.

“We need to get our jumpers going quickly outdoors,” Molnar said. “They are the lifeblood of this team. We need to get them on the board and jumping consistently big from the start.”
